Disabled athletes from Doncaster Athletics Club ended the 2013 season in style at the CP Sports National Championships in Grantham on 21-22 September.
The first trophies were won before the competition started with three local athletes achieving prestigious national awards. In the Under 20 Parallel Success Awards sponsored by British Athletics, Leaha Dixon won female track award for the second year running and Benjamin Heflin the male track award. Matthew Whitehead was the winner of the CP Sport Grand Prix track trophy.
On the track, Matthew Whitehead struck gold in the T38100m event. In a fiercely competitive T36 100m, Benjamin Heflin took the silver medal just ahead of William Baxter who took bronze. Ben bagged his second silver in the 400m event knocking two seconds off his personal best time. Kayden Roe was just out of the medals in the T37 100m but achieved a personal best time in the 200m. In the female events, as well as a personal best in the 100m, Leaha Dixon took silver in the T35 200m.
In the F36 field programme, William Baxter won gold in the javelin and improved his personal best three times on the way to winning gold in the discus competition.
Doncaster male athletes completed a glittering weekend in glorious sunshine by beating CP Sport Allstars in the relay event to close the championships. Great news continued for Doncaster AC when it was confirmed that the Keepmoat Stadium had been selected to host one of CP Sport Grand Prix meetings in the 2014 season.

If you are interested in entering a team in the National Cross Country Relays please forward the names, date of birth and UKA number of individuals making up the team to Martin James (firstname.lastname@example.org 07916 659740).
It is highly recommended you nominate more names than will race so the teams have some reserve runners, the teams will be made up from the best athletes from the nominated names.
Doncaster AC will pay the entry fees for the teams, however, should any of the entered teams fail to run then it will be expected that these teams will refund the entry fee to Doncaster AC.
Entries have to be submitted by 11 October 2013 so it is proposed that the club entry will be ready to be made by Tuesday 8 October.

“The Up and Running South Yorkshire League
Up and Running are again sponsoring the League and we are very grateful to them for their support. As usual, there are 4 league fixtures, with the final one also being the Championships. Entry for all 4 events is £6, which covers all four fixtures and numbers will be with Club Secretaries mid September. There are no new venues this year, but anyone who can tell me the last time there was a SYCAA XC League fixture at Graves Park is older than they are pretending. As I write this (28 August), I am waiting for final booking confirmation of two of the fixtures, but I can’t see that there will be any problem. The dates and venues for the League are:
Sunday 20 October Clifton Park, Rotherham (tbc)
Sunday 10 November Graves Park, Sheffield (tbc)
Sunday 24 November Campsall Country Park, nr Askern
Sunday 8 December Penistone Showground, Penistone
The SYCAA XC Championships: 8 December Continue reading
