Emily Barker got a call this week to represent Yorkshire in u17 intercounties champs at Derby week Saturday in the 3k, Well done Emily.
Thunder Run – 26 to 27 June 2014
DAC Ultra Runner Martin Hookway ran the Thunder Run solo, we have had teams of 5 and 8 before but Martin is the first DAC athlete to run it solo. His report is below which he wrote just after finishing (anyone else would be collapsed). We should look to get some teams in next year as a club, 6 of us are doing the lightning run next year which is the same venue but 12 hours, the more the merrier.
“TR24, you have 24hrs to run as far as you can around a trail 10k course. Simple right? Well after 54 miles in searing heat I forgot to refuel and ended up under a mountain of towels to keep me warm, while being force fed fuel by my wife as my blood sugars had crashed. 2hrs wasted with no sleep I reluctantly went back on the course to see in the sunrise. The sunrise seemed to give all runners a big boost and come 12pm Sunday morning I ended my last lap with girls by my side, crying like a big baby I was relieved to have finished but at the same time strangely sad to see it end. I managed 80miles of ups and downs in one of the most friendly and well supported events in running. I’m now a broken man but dam I’m a happy one.” Well done Martin and also well done to Mick Clark who also completed 80 miles. Continue reading
Fixture 4 Sunday 27th July

Below is the list of athletes that have been chosen to represent the club at the forthcoming fixture. If for any reason you are unable to attend please inform the team managers/reception immediately in order that a substitute can be found.
As you will be aware we now have a well established group for both new runners with low fitness levels and experienced runners who are looking to train with a group. The group is called the Doncaster Pacers and any member of Doncaster AC is very welcome to join in with our training sessions which tend to be 1 hour steady running on Tuesday and interval training on Thursdays. If your not a member and want to try running with a great friendly group come and try us for free. We meet at 6pm at the DAC reception and the sessions are suitable for all abilities and we regularly have 50 runners taking part in the group now. The Doncaster Pacers are the RunEngland face of Doncaster AC.
Last week was a massive week for the second group of beginners with about 40 receiving their framed certificates, the graduates group is now building up to being able to run for an hour.
Our next beginners course starts on September the 9th and it is filling up fast, we already have 14 people signed up. The course is very gentle and aimed at people that don’t think they can run, at the end of 9 weeks you will be able to run for 30 minutes and it offers fantastic value for money at £40, if you take full advantage it only costs you £2.67 per month and this includes between 2 and 3 coached sessions each week, we also bake treats for you to motivate you, we offer free injury prevention talks and we have a team of run leaders and coaches that is the best in the region. The results from the races of the DAC athletes are listed below, an amazing 74 DAC athletes took part which must be a record, well done to every one of you!
We had great support on the night from many volunteers who made it possible.
Emily Barker ran her 1st 5k in Doncaster, her time of 19.37 is the 13th fastest for a u17 girl (run Britain) also it’s the 4th fast of all time by a DAC female athlete. Emily only turned 15 on 15th June. She has also the fastest 3k of all time for any female DAC women. Well done Emily.

We hope everyone had a great night and we thank all of you for taking part in the races. Thanks also to all who made the event happen, the club depends on people to volunteer their time.
If you are looking to join a friendly running club then Doncaster AC is the place for you. We offer coached training for all abilities from 15 minute mile to 6 minute mile and quicker – no one gets left behind. We also offer a 9 week course for complete running beginners which costs just £40 and this includes membership of the Doncaster Pacers for 15 months so that’s just £2.67 a month!
We also have a Saturday Club for children aged 8 and over to try out Athletics. Its our Summer Olympic Startrack in August for 8 to 15 year old children.
