Waterways 30 Miles – 28 January 2017

Well done to Wayne Martison, Martin Hookway, Becky HB and Marie-Louise Taylor!

Martin Hookway. DAC Ultra Captain wrote “After this weekend I couldn’t be prouder to be DAC Ultra Captain, with Wayne and Becky running their first Ultras and Mazza returning to do her 2nd ultra, the Waterways 30 was set to be a great team outing. I’ve been running longer runs over the weekend recently and had the opportunity (thanks to Jim Fletcher) to run with Wayne on his first attempt at an ultra was great. The plan was to run an even paced race and even with little burst of speed chasing the lead female near half way resulting in Wayne hitting “the wall” in the last few miles, we kept to Wayne’s planned Avg pace, finishing 19th & 20th on a very tough 31.5 mile of muddy trail, that to be honest felt as hard as a 50mi race. The trail was really hard going and at places un-runnable due to the amount of mud. All 3 runners put in an amazing performance and I look forward to watching them all progress as Ultra Runners”.

Brass Monkey Half Marathon – 15 January 2017

Men’s captain, Martin James wrote “This was going to be a key race for me on my build up to the London Marathon.  My Half Marathon PB was set at this race last year so I knew this would be a great test to see how I had improved over the 12 months.  Last year I ran it in 81:14, and off this I ran London in 2:51:24.  This year I ran the race of my life taking a massive 4:44 off last years time running a lifetime best of 76:30.  I train with an amazing group of people at the club and I followed Carl Ryde’s advice to pace the race.  Conditions were great, I don’t mind the rain.  My blog post can be found here.”

Peter Vickers was going for sub 90, having not really been training for the race and he Continue reading

National U23 Indoor Combined Events Championship win and GB Selection for Aiden Davies

Congratulations to Aiden Davies who last weekend at the EIS, Sheffield became England Athletics National U23 Indoor Combined Events champion and overall Senior Bronze medallist, for the second year in succession.

In an extremely hard fought competition with his training partner, Leeds Athlete James Finney, it came down to the last event, the 1000m, where Aiden just pipped him, by less than a second, to defend his championship. Aiden finished the two days of competition on 5401 points, 9 points ahead of James on 5392. Aiden added 143 points to his previous best score for the Heptathlon, whilst James bettered his previous best by an incredible 361 points, proving that their training with the TS Tracksquad in the North East, coached by Sam Stanislaus, is proving very effective.
With this points score Aiden is now placed in 11th place in the All-time UK ranking for the U23 Heptathlon. Continue reading
