Lovely conditions for the 20 mile race at Hull, well done all at one of my favourite races.  This race had been reorganised due to the snow and ice of the previous week, so a few of our runners could not make it.

Thanks to Susan Beeby for organising the coach.  So many amazing runs I can’t go through them all to see who got PB’s but I know lots of you did, we hope you all enjoyed the day representing Doncaster Athletic Club.  If your missing from the results please let me know so I can add you.  Brilliant to see DAC out in force!  Thanks also to the supporters who went to the race 🙂 (and all races).

Grindleford Gallop – 21 Miles

This remains one of the hardest races to enter, you have about 60 seconds to get sorted before it sells out. This year, myself and Rose decided to stay over the night before the race at a hotel about 600m away from the start. Nice food, drink and accommodation. Not very nice weather….

On Friday evening the chance of the race being cancelled existed, depending on the amount of the snow on the roads in the morning. Hardly any snow fell overnight, but light snow was falling from 7am. The race was on.

Quick drive to the Race HQ to collect our numbers and dibber and back to the warm car. We were reading -1 degrees C, with a wind chill of -10. I decided to set off with 3 layers on. We all ran with extra kit, the risk was if you got injured or lost or conditions got very bad, you had to take care you yourself whilst waiting for help Continue reading

New NECAA u17 women pentathlon meeting record set.

Nicole Lannie takes another pentathlon indoor title at the weekend and resets the meeting record for the u17 women in the North Eastern Counties indoor pentathlon championships at the Gateshead International Stadium.

In the first event of the indoor pentathlon was the 60m sprint hurdles, Nicole displayed her class to finish first with a time of 8.90s just over a tenth outside her best time. In the high jump Nicole was in amazing jumping form, Nicole came in and cleared a modest 1.43m to get points on the board and was way over the bar, she then cleared the bar first time at 1.46m and 1.49m, then went on to clear at 1.52m, cleared the bar to set a new personal best at 1.55m and also cleared the bar at 1.58m further improving her best. Nicole failed at 1.61m, but set a clear lead of around 300 points over the 14 competitors. In the long jump, Nicole recorded a good start with a first round jump of 5.30m, in the next round of jumps, Nicole produces a huge jump but just touches the plasticine to foul in her second jump and in the third round jumped a fantastic 5.33m, just a cm off her best. Nicole extended her lead in the pentathlon by over 400 points with the shot being the next event. Nicole threw 11.32m with her final throw, the second best throw in the event to maintain her lead. The final event was the 60m sprint, Nicole ran a creditable time of 8.24s to come second but amassed an amazing total score of 3686 points, 372 in front of the next competitor to reset the meeting record by 75 points and also increased her personal best by around 800 points in this event.

Other Doncaster AC competitors were the Langley brothers, both put in strong performances to gain some personal bests in the throws. Nathan was the only competitor in the u20mens to take the title and Regan was 6th out of 7 in the u17 men’s event and recorded a personal best in the overall score.
