Results update 24 April 2018 – London Marathon, Blackpool Marathon and Longhorn Half Marathon + parkruns

Blackpool Marathon

Well done to Nathan Robinson completed this marathon in 4:14:28 off limited training.

Longhorn Half Marathon

Sharon Waters and Christopher Waters completed this off road Half Marathon in 2:32:11 and 2:32:18 respectively.  Kate Willett completed the Canicross Half Marathon with a time of 2:17:20.

London Marathon

We had the most awesome support on the course from our members and friends from other clubs, we thank you all.  Martyn Walter organised transport for loads of our members on the day and you were all brilliant!

The day was officially the hottest London Marathon on record and this made the race very challenging, all our athletes gave 101% and had an amazing day.  Everyone trained so hard for this race.

Caroline Wheelhouse, who was on the championship start had a very good chance of winning her age group, this is Caroline’s report and we respect your positive attitude.

After a perfect build-up of big miles and smart training I went into the VLM in great shape; happy to have made the championship start line at V60 I’d achieved one of my aims, so now it was just the race…..

Couldn’t do anything about the predicted hot weather so I decided to stick to my plan and prepare to slow down as things warmed up.  First two 5k splits went well, then at around 7/8 miles some – shall I say individual – clipped me and sent me flying onto the pavement!  Picked myself up (a bit shaky!) and set off again, but the damage was done; hip pain and very sore ribs found me running pretty badly and by mile 9 I was considering pulling out.  I walked for a while with a poor (normally 3hr) Scots lad who’d only 2 weeks previously been training in -2C and had decided to run/walk.  He got me to about 10 miles then I struggled through a bit more, all the time weighing up my options – pull out to minimise the damage? Tough it out, you’ve gone to a lot of effort for this? Oh dear it’s going to be a death march, you’re not even half way (and it’s getting really hot now as well)………..

So I pushed on a bit more, then came across a another runner who was in a much more miserable state than I was, and I helped to get her going as we ran slowly together chatting about nothing in particular; after that, it was me against my overwhelming desire to stop. But of course I couldn’t do that with such an amazing crowd all around, and so many other runners taking the time to ask if I was okay – my painful lop-sided gait making it pretty obvious that I was not!

So for the first time in the London Marathon I saw all the sights and the distance markers just became my get out of jail cards.  The crowds wouldn’t let me stop – they were there for me. Fellow runners wouldn’t let me stop. I limped up the Mall in a daze of humanity, so happy to finish but more happy to have met so many wonderful people, if only for a moment. Continue reading

Road League Wednesday 25 April 2018 – Worsborough

Race Info from a couple of years ago, should be the same for this year.  Please arrive in plenty of time:

Parking update – Wednesday nights Road League parking. If you park in the Mill car park be aware that it is locked at 8. If you can’t move your car before that time, park across the road by the canal side. You go through a gate on the side road. Last year one car was in until next morning.

Race starts at 7pm, please arrive in plenty of time.  Lets build on the excellent start following the first race.

Free parking is available – see this link for the location.

 

  1. Parking is free at Worsboro’ Mill
  2.  When Mill park is full go to next turn right and Marshal’s will direct you.
  3. Don’t park on course which is left at pub.
  4. You may park up the steep hill towards Ward Green.
  5. Portable toilets are in the WMC car park and in the club.
  6. Runners should keep on the footpath down the A61 from Birdwell to the finish.  This is a fast road, the pavement is wide and level.
  7. When they have finished, follow the path back to the car park and not cause a problem near the officials by shouting and blocking the route for slower runners.
  8. The WMC will be open for a drink and a chat.

 

London Marathon – DAC Club Places

To go into our club ballot for our club places you must enter the public ballot which is open from 30 April until 4 May 17:00.  The draw for the club ballot is towards the end of the year and it will not take place until London Marathon confirm our allocation.  Anyone can enter the public ballot.

  • The member needs a rejection slip from the ballot entry
  • If you got a London place last year from DAC’s allocated places you should not be eligible to get one of the clubs allocated places for the next year (Fiona Gabbitus, Deborah Thompson, Lynette Temperton-Ball and Angela Dickinson)
  • You must be a first claim member at the time of entering the public ballot and be fully paid up with a UKA license, and if you are successful at the draw you must have renewed your membership with Doncaster AC and your UKA license for the year of the marathon
  • The member has to arrange payment for the place
  • You must run in a Doncaster AC vest
  • The member needs to have completed a half marathon, or race of greater distance during 2017 / 2018 before the club ballot is drawn

Reserve your place on our beginners running group

Our next popular 9 week beginners course will start on 15 May 2018, the course is already filling up.  It is aimed at people who do not run and it is very gentle – you will be supported by a team of volunteer Run Leaders, Coaches and Runners from Doncaster Athletic Club who all give their time freely out of a desire to help others, make friends and support the local running community.

We plan to have an induction evening the week before the course in one of the classrooms at the Keepmoat Stadium.  Date TBC.

The cost is £47, this includes the beginners course, a framed certificate on completion and membership of the club until 2019 – its all you will pay until 2019!  Our runs are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, beginners at 6pm, and after the 9 week course 6:30pm.

We have timed the course to finish during the week of the Doncaster Town Centre 5km event, and we have arranged for our May beginners to take part in this event for just £7, this saves you £10 and you get a running t-shirt for doing this event!  This is a great target to aim for.
