Great running by George Phillips running a 2 minute PB and being first DAC runner to

finish.  1st DAC lady to finish was Marie-Louise Taylor who ran her fastest 10k since 2015.

1st 3 in the various age groups were George PhillipsConnor AndersonKevin Newmanmax joynesJack PellMargaret ButlerSue Greaves.

Dozens of our runners got PB’s and some got major benchmarks like 1st sub 40 or first sub hour.  You can see from the range of times that we are a competitive and inclusive club, as club captain I am proud of you all.  I know lots of the athletes who ran with the Pacers (from 40 minutes up to 65 minutes) achieved some amazing times with their help, they run with us every week so come and join them on our club nights along with the 85 runners who took part from DAC.

Claire Sayles wrote “Nearly ready for taking my tired legs off to bed now, but not without saying a massive thank you to you all. I haven’t been in the club long, but in this short time I have received such amazing support. So much so that you all inspired me to do my first 10k today at Doncaster instead of waiting for Gainsborough in March. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Proud to call you all my running family. What a fantastic day 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ xxx” Continue reading

British and Irish Cross country International

Myself (Kev Newman) and Caroline Wheelhouse competed in the above event in Swansea on 17 Nov 2018.

The process to get selected to represent England is as follows. The s

electors look at runners performance during the last 12 months in both the British Masters and England Masters events, over 5k and 10 k on the road and track. Both of us posted some good results, I won the British Masters 10,000 metres on the track and Caroline had a fantastic run in the Amsterdam half marathon in a time of 1.29.14. collecting Gold. This was the second fastest V60 run of all time.

So with a good year under our belts we applied for selection and both were successful in our respective age groups. Each team has four runners with 3 to count. Race day arrived and we competed against the best from Scotland Wales Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland. The conditions were bright and breezy, the course was 3 laps for Caroline and 4 laps for myself. The course itself was undulating but very runnable we both had really good runs.

Caroline finished second overall in the W60 category. Helping her team to win Gold. I finished second England runner and helped my team to win Gold.

It is a long hard process to gain a place in the England team with lots of hard work, but at the same time it is an honor and worth all the effort.

William Baxter

DAC para-athlete William Baxter had a great boost from British Athletics for his winter training after being selected for the Paralympic Development Academy.

The national selection panel took into account performance profile, competition history, UK and WPA world rankings to prioritise athletes who  highlighted the potential to progress onto the Paralympic Futures Academy in the next 1-2 years and the World Class Programme (WCP) in 3-5 years and ultimately to win medals at future Paralympic Games.

The programme starts in January 2019 and will focus on supporting athletes and coaches through specific technical development squad-based training.

There will be a series of Paralympic Development Academy Camps which will provide the opportunity to learn from experienced event coaches.

William is thrilled and very proud and would like to thank all his friends at DAC for their support in helping him to improve. A special thanks to Diana his first coach and to Phil Peat who has coached him since 2015. The hard work starts now!
