Cross Country Information for 2014 / 2015

The cross country season is almost upon us!  All members are able to compete from the age of 8 upwards (some events have age restrictions).

Cross country fixtures are great fun and an excellent opportunity to build up your strength over the winter and to keep race fit, start 2015 on top form.

On the local level we have the South Yorkshire Cross Country League the cost to Doncaster AC athletes is £5 (£2 discount from the cost of £7 paid by the club) , with four events across the country competing against all our friends at South Yorkshire clubs – £1.25 per race.  This year Doncaster AC are hosting one of the fixtures.  Doncaster AC is in division 1 and we need you to help us stay in division 1!  Keep your race number for the four races.  The forth race is the South Yorkshire Championships.

Doncaster AC uses the South Yorkshire league as our club championships, to qualify you need to complete three of the four fixtures and one of the three must be the last one.  Prizes are awarded to the first 3 in each age group.  Numbers for the South Yorkshire League should be available from Thursday 18 September, see Kev Lincoln.  You need your UKA number to get a race number and you must wear your DAC vest.

If your not a paid up member now is the perfect opportunity to join so you can compete in these events, click here for details.

Three teenage athletes from Doncaster Athletic Club represented North East England in the U 20 Disabled squad at the 2014 Sainsbury’s UK School Games in Manchester 4-7 September.

On day 2 of the games, the trio competed in the warm autumn sunshine at the Sportcity Regional Athletic Centre. T36 sprinter Ben Heflin, dug deep in a gritty 400m performance and was cheered over the line in 5th position by a large crowd in the stadium. F20 athlete Paige Watkin-Drury achieved a season’s best distance in the long jump to win a silver medal – a great performance as following a recent injury she needed to change her run up and push off leg. F36 thrower William Baxter improved his lifetime best three times in shot put to claim fourth spot, and in discus won a silver medal with a lifetime best throw in the first round of the competition.

The multisport games attracted more than 1600 elite young athletes from all parts of the UK and was launched at an opening ceremony at Manchester Arena and finished at a closing ceremony in the velodrome at the National Cycling Centre on Sunday.

Doncaster Pacers – last begineers course of 2014 starts Tuesday 9th

Beginners (and any member who wants to have another go), the big day Tuesday 9th has nearly arrived, we have booked a room at the Keepmoat stadium from 5:45pm where we will process the membership forms and take the £40 payment (for new members), that gets you membership for 15 months.

The room is called the Players Lounge and this is located on the Football stadium on the side facing the Yorkshire Outlet. We will make ourselves visible in the car park to direct you to the room. If you cannot find us go to the running track and they will direct you.

Don’t worry if your late, we will be giving an induction at 6pm for about 20 minutes and then we will head out and do the first gentle session. So fetch some trainers, a t-shirt and some shorts or comfortable trousers. If the weather is bad you might want a small jacket. We do have technical T-Shirts for sale, you are free to purchase these at any time for £10. We have shower and toilet facilities available.

Please ask any questions you might have and we look forward to meeting you all and making lots of new friends! I have attached the information sheet we will be giving out.
