Race to the Stones – Jonathan Frary

… so that’s 100k done then… lots to blab on about and it’s a good emotional download after a long time on your feet!

Back in Feb I made a decision to move away from Triathlon for a bit after 9 years of racing, decided what I liked best was running long distances when it’s hot (I have raynauds, it’s literally what my body is made for!)

Moving to a slow pace and running long distances was a hard adaptation for the body to make but I knew I couldn’t do ‘long’ without adapting my body to what I was going to ask it to do… so that’s all I’ve been doing.

After a pretty successful first win at a 50k distance in 4 hours 11, I decided to do a 100k (albeit a bit too early in the training programme to do a 100k, I was broke after the first 50k I did!)

The race:

English Schools – Callie

Well done to all our athletes that competed at the English Schools competition at the weekend. We are always looking for event reports for the website and Lynsey wrote this:

” I just want to take this opportunity to thank all the coaches at DAC especially Les and Jude for getting Callie to this point in her Athletic journey yesterday. What an amazing experience to get to the English Schools. She has had so many wise words from Barry and Mike and Judith and the coaching from Les at the event it self which was amazing to watch, your dedication to travel that far for your Athletes is phenomenal.
Unfortunatley Callie just missed out on a medal coming 4th with a jump of 1m62 but still has a PB of 1m70 and remains the 2nd best in the UK. Hopefully she will go forward and smash this with her determination and drive she now has from feeling all these emotions she feels today.
To all you Athletes wanting to achieve….keep going, follow your dreams, you CAN do it, dont let anything stop you and be proud of your club and who you are.
Thanks everyone, we are forever grateful❤”

Targu Mures European duathlon Championships

Jayne Baldwin wrote “Time to reflect after a manic few days at Targu Mures European duathlon Championships. Great company, great racing and a truly memorable experience. Used the Sprint as a warm up and finished 4th overall. Wednesday was the Standard and after temperatures of 30+, the storm of all storms arrived – torrential rain, thunder and lightening delayed the start. Wet but just like the UK!!! Had a fantastic race and finished 2nd in Silver medal position and 1 up from Ibiza – win, win!! Special thanks to Garry – coach ‘carer’ and soulmate, all the training groups and all my friends and family for their continued support.”

The Serpent Trail 50km – 6 July 2019
