Chloe Bewley - Sponsored Run

E-mail Print PDF
Chloe Bewley is ten years old and loves athletics. She has won several cross country races this season representing Doncaster A.C. and also her school, she has also proved her skill on the track and is quite a decent high jumper.    Chloe is now putting her love of running into action to raise money in memory of her best friend Grace who recently died from Leukemia after a very short illness.  Chloe was totally devastated when Grace died and is determined to do something positive to remember her friend by.  Chloe has decided to raise money to provide a friendship bench in memory of Grace and the rest of the proceeds are going to the leukemia fund.  The bench will be going to Barnby Dun Primary School.

Terry Bailey has arranged for Chloe to be able to do a sponsored run on 15th February at  Wombwell.  So if you are there doing the 5 mile road race, be sure to cheer her on as she raises  funds in memory of Grace. Also anybody who wishes to run the race with her would be most welcome. There will be some sponsor forms available at the club shortly and all contributions will be welcome.  Please contact Chloe's parents Bruce and Gayle who are usually at the track on club nights, for any further information.

Doncaster AC Startrack

E-mail Print PDF

Doncaster AC Startrack.

Many thanks to Barry Barnes and Diana Stanger for supporting our Club Startrack event for 2008. Additional thanks also to our 10 junior coaches who gave up their time on both dates to help make the experience of our young athletes highly professional and enjoyable. Not forgetting the dedicated parents for ensuring youngsters arrived on time and collected at the end.

The event took place on the 4th and 5th August, with 35 young people taking part on both dates. The warm and sunny first day was particularly enjoyable with the rain arriving on the second day, although this did not effect overall enjoyment.

The most important factor for me is that we have won a further 12 new members to the Club and provided opportunity for many young people to try athletics for the first time. Our coaches put together an imaginitive programme, including high jump, long jump, sprints, hurdles, shot, discuss, javelin and a mini sprint competition at the end. The good bags were excellent quality, in fact an excellent experience all round.

We have taken on board the feedback and will be looking to make the event more spectactular next year.

Thanks to Hugh Parkin for taking the photos - see the photo album page.

Nicola Bamford - Her Story

E-mail Print PDF

Nicola Bamford, who spoke at the Jnr AGM last night and our novice runner night has kindly agreed for her story to go on our website.

"I'm not a superstar but I hope that one day I will be, so hopefully what I've got to say will be of interest to you.

I remember when I used to clean the toilets at my local sports centre in Nottingham and say to the staff "one day I'll be in the Olympics!" - The point to this is that everyone has a dream, and whilst it's important to be realistic in your aims, you should always set your sights high. Each of us has a path in life that we hope will ultimately lead to us reaching our goals and therefore achieving success. We must remember though, that there'll be many obstacles to overcome down that path until we reach that goal - the key is to persist.

I particularly like the quote from Stephen King's The Shawshank Redemption; "get busy living or get busy dying". All of you in this room are very much alive with lots to offer - you're persisting in your chosen area and for many of you sport is a part of that. For me sport provides an escape from the stresses of daily life while also improving my health and social skills.
