Road Running

Doncaster Athletic Club has a very strong Road Running section and we are proud to welcome athletes from any standard to join us.  Our members participate in many local, national and international events.  No one is pressurised to compete for the club and we have many social runners.  The popularity of road running has increased in recent years and Doncaster Athletic Club is the ideal place to meet like minded people.

Road Running  Announcements

Training nights are Tuesday and Thursday 18:30 to 20:00.  The members usually split into 2 or 3 groups to cater for various abilities (can be an easy steady run, hills, interval, track session etc) - usually between 6 and 10 miles. During the lighter evenings groups might head over to Sandall Beat Woods or various footpaths around the Potteric Carr area. In the winter months groups run around the roads in Cantley / Bessacarr / Intake / Balby etc…

If you are thinking about joining Doncaster Athletic Club please call down on a club night to have a chat and a run, to see if we can offer you the running experience you deserve.

Doncaster Town Centre Road Races - Results

E-mail Print PDF
Wednesday the 14 July saw the 17th annual running of the Doncaster Town Centre Road Races, about 80 DAC athletes competed across the three races.

30 minutes before the start of the Johnymac Family Fun Run the roads were cleaned for us by very heavy rain storm.  Luckily this passed before the first race started and conditions turned out to be good for the runners and spectators.

The Fun Run was won by Declan Neary, indeed 7 out of the first 10 were junior members from DAC including first girl to finish, Charlotte Kirk.  An incredible 251 people completed the fun run.

The Vets race was won by Shaun Dimelow of Barnsley Harriers.  Second to finish was last years winner, Simon Wright.  First lady to finish was Julie Buckley from Penistone Footpath Runners, first DAC lady to finish was Karen Richards.

The Open race was won by Philip Hoole of Rotherham Harriers, second to finish was Carl Ryde.  The first lady to finish was Jennie Blizzard from Rotherham Harriers and the first DAC lady to finish was Loiuse Gill.

A massive thank you to all who made this event possible including the DAC race organising committee, all the volunteers who marshalled and helped on race night, the officials and the race secretary, Jo Parkin who spent hours after the race getting the results ready for publishing.  Thanks also to the organisations who supported this race.

Andy Davies is currently sorting out photographs from the race and they will be uploaded in due course.

Ferry 5 Road Race Results

E-mail Print PDF
Well done to all who competed in the Meters to Miles Ferry 5 road race last Wednesday 26 May.

Lots of great results, John Wanjohi was first DAC athlete to finish running his quickest 5 mile road race time in 4 years.  Jennie Blizard was frst lady to finish and Jennie set a new club record.  Caroline Wheelhouse set a new club record in her age group category and Caroline is now 3rd on the ladies all time top 10.  Gaynor Neary managed so do a sub 40 for the first time.

Several DAC athletes won prizes including both the mens and ladies team prizes.

Any errors please let me know.

The rankings and records have all been updated.  One late amendment to the club records was that Peter Rowlands smashed the V65 club record for 5 miles at the Keepmoat, apologies for this omission which has been corrected.

The full results can be found here.

The next event to be hosted by Meters to Miles is the Normanby Hall Womens 5k on the 27 June.

Jane Tomlinson Hull 10k and Chatsworth House 10k - 23 May

E-mail Print PDF

Sunday 23rd May was the date for the first Jane Tomlinson Hull 10k. It was a beautiful warm day (maybe a little too warm). There was a great atmosphere with the people of Hull out in force to support all the runners. The run took in the city centre, quay side with a welcome breeze off the Humber. The course was pretty flat with a few cobbled streets. The organisation was supurb and the water stations at 3 and 7k were welcome sites. This is definatly a run I will enter again next year.

Our road runners took part in three races last weekend, if anyone wants to add anything please send me an email or use the comments function:

Both the senior mens team and vets mens team finished second.
