Oxford Half Marathon – 9 October 2016
Massive well done to Jodi, great report:
I just wanted to let you know that today I completed my first ever half marathon. It was
the Oxford half which I chose as I wanted to run with my sister who lives down there. I’m not normally a fan of massive events, I love the local runs, but this event was brilliantly organised. Loads of drinks stations including lucozade plus jelly babies. There were loads and loads of spectators all around the route who cheered everyone on. We had high-fives, 2 brass bands, steel drums and a bit of dance/trance DJing! I completed the race in 2:04:19 which I am really chuffed with. I would not have been able to do this without the support of the Pacers. Andrea and Tony in particular gave me loads of great advice. Rose’s intervals have really improved my fitness -especially the dreadful hills! I joined the pacers in May and I absolutely love it. I can’t believe that I didn’t join sooner. So thank you to the organisers, the run leaders and everyone who runs with me for making running so enjoyable.
Thanks again for all that you do to keep the group going.
TenTenTen 10km – 9 October 2016
To help LiRF Susan Forbes celebrate her birthday lots of our members decided to take part in the Sheffield TenTenTen 10k
I know a couple of our runners got injured or had accidents during the event and a couple did not make it to the start, speedy recovery all.
Susan said First time my youngest daughter Rebecca Forbes Cotrufo has seen me run! She came on the train specially from Notts, carrying my grandson to be, so I really appreciate her making the effort. I could hear her shouting ‘Mum Mum’ & found her face in the crowd & my sister shouting Susan & I could see a sea of Pacers clapping & cheering -too many to name but you all made my day so very special, thankyou especially Sarah Jane Machin who ran with me & baked tasty cheese straws & a dozen 10 buns, & Claire Beegan for my 60th badge which I wore on the back of my Pacer vest & got me lots of ‘Happy birthdays- from lovely fellow runners & supportive marshalls. So sorry Emma Richardson fell & couldn’t finish & Claire went flying & looked like a sexy boxer! & for Vicky Jackson & Paul for cheering & getting the MC to announce it was my birthday & Dawn Hollingsworth for taking photos. I am now officially a V60!“

Royal Parks Half Marathon – 9 October 2016
Shaz Wood said two valuable lessons learnt- 1. Sometimes it might be better to listen and not run 2. Orange lucozade really does not agree with me.
Considering Shaz was unwell she still stormed home in a time of 1:52:06, well done
Yorkshire Marathon – 9 October 2016
We are very proud of all our athletes running this marathon in great conditions. Karey and Amie Lake were both worried about the event with injuries and being first timers to the marathon distance. Amie also acted as a guide runner for late entry Sharon Maughan. Team #Hookway were at it again with Martin and Susan Hookway putting in another marathon only 2 weeks after Loch Ness (dressed as clowns).
Amie said “yesterday, with my whole body against me, I achieved the unachievable. I would NOT have done this without Sharon Maughan by my side and Team Hookway helping me through. A few of you know how much finishing meant to me and I thank you all for your help. Each and every one of you got me over the finish line. Much love pacers xxxxx”

Parkruns
One of the clubs most respected and inspirational runners, Phil Bussey wrote the 
following about the Parkrun Concept “Love the parkrun , every age , sex , and ability coming together. Best thing that that as happened to running and the community in a generation. Not to mention the health benefits and bringing together of people and social cohesion aspect of it.” This week, at Doncaster 19 volunteers gave up their time to allow the event to take place and we are grateful to each and everyone of you! For the last 159 weeks an amazing team of volunteers have delivered every Saturday.
