Brass Monkey Half Marathon – 13 January 2019

One of those races that fills up in minutes, you snooze you lose.

With 40mph winds forecast it did not look like a morning for PB’s so well done to James Osborne who wan a PB and broke 80 minutes for the first time and well done to Simon Jennings who also ran a PB.

Wishing Tom and Janet a speedy recovery, Tom pulled up at about 5 miles so thanks to the marshal who drove him to the finish.

Well done to all our runners.

Langsett Loop – 13 January 2019

It was the Langsett Loop which was organised by ‘Grim Up North’ Running.

The course consisted of a 5 mile loop around Langsett Reservoir with options to enter 5, 10, 15 or 20 miles with further options to do a Marathon (5 and a bit laps) or  an Ultra which was 6 full laps.

The three of us all entered the 15 mile race. All races started at the same time and followed the same route.

The 5 mile loop was roughly 1 mile on road, 2.5 miles on trails (mostly quite muddy) and 1.5 miles through fen/rocky areas which were tricky. Off road shoes were certainly needed. (shame I left mine at home)

The race was well marked out and superbly marshalled throughout and along with a good quality medal there was a beer, chocolates and as much homemade cake as you could eat.

The Grim up North races offer a variety of distances and the organisers are very flexible. For example a fair few people opted on the day to change their distance and it was no hassle at all

These are very relaxed, very easy going races, no pressure, no elites, just people trying different distances over different terrains. I’d certainly recommend their races to you, this was my second and I’ve booked a third in April.
