DAC Uni Freshers win medals at BUCS Championships
Congratulations to three of our athletes, who competed in their first British University & Colleges Sport National Athletics Championships at Bedford over the Bank Holiday weekend, and superbly came away with medals.
JACK HOUGHTON battled for a Silver medal in the 400m Hurdles and in the process set an incredible PB time of 51.64 secs, shattering his previous best time by 1.3 secs.
It was a hard race for Jack and at the 200m mark looked like he was out of the running, but in true Jack style, showing the grit and determination we all admired when he used to compete for the DAC YAL Team, he powered down the home straight to bring home the medal against some much more experienced athletes.
He was second to GB International, and three times previous BUCS champion, Niall Flannery who won in a time of 50.10 secs.
This was Jack’s first competition since joining Malcolm Arnold’s coaching team at Bath University and Jack now boasts a Silver BUCS medal to go with the Silver he won at the English Schools Championships last year.
CHLOE BRADLEY led the womens 4 x 400m Loughborough team who won Gold.
BETH DOBBIN played her part in securing the Gold medal for the Loughborough University Women’s 4 x 100m relay team.
The Loughborough girls dominated the race with a winning time of 47.20 secs, ahead of St Mary’s College in Silver (48.44s) and Sheffield Hallam in Bronze (48.97)
