Results update 14 March 2016 – Grindleford Gallop, Retford Half Marathon, Dronfield 10k and Parkruns

Doncaster AC is pleased to be hosting our usual races again this year, the entries for the Sandall Beat 10k, Town Centre 5k and Cusworth 10k are now open as well as our Spring Open Meeting.
Grindleford Gallop – 21 Mile trail Race
The biggest challenge was entering the thing. It opened a few months ago, I think on a Sunday evening at 10pm. Within 7 minutes all 600 places had been sold. Two Doncaster AC athletes entered, Martin Hookway who had done the race before and Martin James who had no idea what the race was or where Grindleford was.
As you can see it was quite a hilly race. The hills at 18k and 26k were awful but some of the descents were great.
Martin Hookway had a strong start (which is necessary due to a bottleneck 200m from the start) line but after 2 miles he was coughing and resigned to enjoy the race rather than race it hard. I was using it as a long run as part of my London Training. Conditions were great, dry, cool, sunny, not too bad underfoot. Several feed stations to keep the hydration in check and jelly babies (and cake). At the end we got soup, bread and coffee (and more cake) included in the entry fee.
The winning time was 2:22:24.

Dronfield 10k – 13 March 2016
Wayne Martison was pleased with his run today. He tweeted “wow awesome race hilly but well supported will be doing it again next year” Wayne finished in 42nd place with a time of 39:21.
Retford Half Marathon – 13 March 2016
Joanne Goodier ran a massive PB which previously stood at 87:58, now it is 84:35, 2nd lady to finish. Peter Simpson ran his first half marathon, with very little specific training he ran a great time of 85:14 finishing 32nd. Nice to see some of our beginner runners completing their first half marathon and well done everyone. Photos by John Rainsforth.
