BAL Report
Despite having to leave several of our male athletes at home due to a fixture clash, Doncaster AC competed well in their initial BAL fixture at Derby with experienced combined teams Derby & Mansfield taking first place and Rugby & Northampton second. Doncaster finished 5th closely behind Portsmouth and Brighton whilst beating Reading.
Individually there were many highlights, in the 3000m Steeplechase our 2 athletes George Phillips and Kallum Silcox led from gun to tape leaving the rest of the field behind with 600m to go and finishing first in both the A and B strings. Both smashed the club record, which has stood since 2008, by 30 seconds. George is now ranked 3rd in the UK. Our 4x100m relay team of Ben Burton, Aiden Davies, Steven Bellamy and Joe McGrath came 2nd in a thrilling finish beating another club record which has stood since 2009. There we a tremendous effort from our multi-eventers Ben & Aiden who between them competed in the Pole Vault, 110m Hurdles, High Jump, Discus, Javelin and the relay.
Notable personal bests were recorded by Josh McCoy and Jack Brinkhurst in the Long and Triple Jumps. Other athletes who stood out, competing in events they don’t normally do yet still scoring valuable points for the team included Ian Bellamy, Rhys Gibson, Tom Matthewson, Callum Wilson and Josh Schofield.
