Midland Regional schools combined events

New Junior Doncaster AC athlete Morgan Spink, competed at the Midlands Regional Schools Combined Events for the Nottinghamshire schools u15 girls team and was the only competitor for her team.  The event was held at Derby’s Moorways Stadium.

Morgans first event was the 75m hurdles and all the competitors had a strong headwind to contend with, making it hard to get a really good time, Morgan had an excellent start, keeping up with the leader all the way to the line and finished with a creditable time of 12.3s.  Placing her in second place on the individual leader board after the first event.  The shot is not one of her strongest events, but Morgan still managed to produce a personal best of 7.29m and dropped to 8th on the leader board.  In the high jump Morgan produced some fine jumps to equal her best of 1.50m and just knocked the bar off at 1.53m on all three of her attempts, moving her back up the leader board.  The long jump event however was also into a headwind and Morgan could only manage a creditable jump of 4.56m to go fourth on the leader board and only the 800m to go, which is a strong event for Morgan.  From the gun Morgan showed her class and led the race from start to finish, recording a time of 2minutes 30.5s which earned her enough points for third position overall, setting a new personal best score of 2746 points, that gained her automatic selection for the National Schools combined events finals to be held at Exeter in September.
