NECAA indoor combined events meeting.
Two Doncaster AC junior athletes travelled to Gateshead for the North Eastern Counties combined events championships. Nicole Lannie last years u13 pentathlon record holder and now competing in her first year as an under 15 girl performed exceptionally well, recording a new club record for the indoor pentathlon using a 60m instead of the traditional 800m. Her overall score was 2888 points, enough for the silver medal position on the day. The day started well, winning the 60m hurdles in the fastest time of 9.69s, the next event was the long jump, where she produced the longest jump of 4.66m to retain the lead. In the high jump, Nicole has been nursing an injury to her upper back and only managed to jump 1.35m, putting her back into 2 place overall. In the shot put, Nicole produced a personal best throw of 9.49m, the longest throw from all the athletes. The final event was the 60m event and set another personal best time of 8.53s, the 2nd fastest time from all the athletes.
Training partner Kirbi Taylor also competed in her first NECAA pentathlon championship and set a creditable score of 2305 points, that was also better than the previous club record. Kirbi started well in the 60m hurdles and was just off her best time, then produced a new personal best in the long jump with a leap of 4.38m, the high jump is work in progress as she is learning the technique and could only manage 1.17m, but bounced back in the shot producing another personal best of 6.94m and the final event the 60m was just outside her best time by 2 thousands of a second. Kirbi finished in a creditable 9th place.
